COVID-19 And the New Normal
When social isolation restrictions are lifted and the COVID surges have passed, and yes the former will cause the latter to occur in a devastating manner, normal life will look different from the year before. As with the 9/11 tragedy, life will shift further towards dystopia. Just like taking off our shoes at the airport has become routine, so will COVID public safety measures, such as masks and temperature scanning, become standard.
The new normal is tragic, but also inevitable. Until there is a vaccine or cure for this pandemic, we will not have a choice but to continue distancing ourselves as best we can. And though humans are flawed and selfish, we are also resilient. Just as we survived and adapted to catastrophes and wars throughout time, so will we to this global pandemic.
When we do return to social gatherings, schools, restaurants and family visits, imagine how appreciative we will be. Today I am focusing on the hope that once hugs of joy return, they will never leave us again.
